Richmond Rendezvous

Greetings readers,

I love this time of the year. It's warm outside, there's baseball to be played, and I have the best seat in the house doing the best job in the world: broadcasting.

I'm back for my second season with the Richmond RiverRats, a summer wood-bat collegiate team in its fifth year of existence. The 'Rats play on the west end of the Rose City, in the historic McBride Stadium. It's a nice, beautiful ball park that has withstood the test of time thus far, and has been standing since 1936.

The last pro team to call McBride home was the Richmond Roosters of the Frontier League. From 1995 until 2005, the Roosters made the Rose City their home. After the 2005 season, the Roosters were bought/moved to Traverse City, Michigan and became the Beach Bums of the Frontier League.

I was very lucky to get the internship last year, joining a few other interns from Indiana colleges and universities. I worked with one who did the post-game stories last year, great guy.

It's a very peaceful way to spend a summer: broadcasting baseball in a historic ballpark. I couldn't picture any summer without broadcasting baseball. If you never been to John Cate Field at Don McBride Stadium, you really need to check it out one day. Tickets are plenty cheap ($8 for a nice box seat and $6 for a bleacher spot) and it's good, quality baseball...or you could always listen to me broadcast the games.

Until next time,

-Lee

Batting Ninth on the Podcast

Hello readers,

So yeah, this picture happened. This is a screenshot of one of the new videos that we play at the Dragons, whenever the home team hits a home run. I'm the ninth batter of the visiting "Peoria" lineup. The lineup consists of control room workers, from the P.A. Announcer to the Video Switcher. We even got to play this video the same night it was imported. The Dayton Dragons won that game 7-6 over the West Michigan Whitecaps.

In other news, I recently bought myself an early birthday gift. I bought a Blue Snowball USB Microphone with a pop filter. I've been reading some online reviews of the Snowball, and I decided to finally purchase one. I figure with the opportunities coming up, I might as well boot up a podcast.

My plan of this podcast it to make it all about the Miami Valley sports scene. From high school to professional sports, I want to cover Dayton well. We have some great high school athletics here, as well as exceptional college teams in NCAA Divisions I-III and NAIA, and great pro teams to root for. My plan is to have it weekly, probably for just an hour. The name (as well as how I'm going to host/broadcast it) is still up in the air.

So there you have it. I'm batting ninth and I'm planning a podcast with an early birthday gift (to myself.) Looking forward to getting the ball rolling!

Until next time,
-Lee

Blogger Lightning Strikes Thrice

Greetings readers,

My name is Lee W. Mowen and I'm giving Blogger a third go-around.

What's different this time around? For starters, this is a blog about various things that happen in my life. One day, it could be about sports. The next post, it could be about stuff I remember or something interesting I read.

Here's hoping for more than three posts! Thanks for reading, and I hope to make this into something enjoyable.

Until next time,

-Lee
